
Danica Sue Patrick, an American ex-professional racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the most accomplished woman in American open-wheel car racing the history of open-wheel racing. Her victory at the Indy Japan 300 was her first victory. In 1998, she quit high school and relocated to England in order to pursue her career. Patrick was a competitor in Formula Vauxhall before moving to the United States in 2001 because of a lack in funding. She took part in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in 2002 with Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick was a Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the following two seasons. Her best finish was third in championship standings for the 2004 season. She became the first female in the series to earn a pole position. She was awarded the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She improved throughout the following two seasons with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and later Andretti Green Racing 2007. Patrick was sixth overall in drivers' standings in 2008 after her Japan win. She improved on this to place fifth next season, which resulted in her finishing a record-breaking third at the Indianapolis 500, the best performance by any woman at the race. Patrick's overall performance dipped during the 2010 season, but she still managed to place second on the oval tracks. After that, she left IndyCar in 2011 to concentrate on stock car racing full time.
